What are the supplements necessary to our body? Generally there are two types of vitamins: fat soluble and water soluble. Vitamin B and C are water soluble where as vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble.

Vitamin B and C are fat soluble and need to be replaced daily as they are excreted by the body. B complex vitamins are found in meat, fish, grains, cereals, and green leafy vegetables. B complex vitamins are responsible for red blood cell formation, nervous system, metabolism, and disease prevention. Deficiency of this vitamin causes anemia, headaches, mood swings, burning eyes, muscle weakness, and skin rashes.

Vitamin C is present in fruits and vegetables and is an important antioxidant and reduces health risks. Vitamin C deficiency causes swelling, fatigue, muscle weakness and depression. As vitamin B and C are water soluble and excreted daily, proper diet provide enough vitamins and there is no need to supplement these vitamins.

Fat soluble vitamins are stored in our body and need not to be replaced daily. As these vitamins cannot be excreted by the body, large amounts of these vitamins can be harmful to your life.

Vitamin A is found in fruits and vegetables and is important for growth, function of cells, and vision. Vitamin A deficiency can cause spots in the eyes, anemia, and abnormalities in the senses.

Vitamin D can be directly obtained from the sun. It is also found in eggs, milk, butter, and fortified foods. Deficiency in vitamin D leads to osteoporosis, rickets disease in children, and bone mineral loss.

Vitamin E is found in meat products, fortified foods and fats. Vitamin E is important for cell growth and to prevent many diseases. Vitamin E deficiency leads to decreased speech, coordination and vision.

Vitamin K is found in green, leafy vegetables and is important in blood clotting and binding calcium to the bone. Vitamin K deficiency is rare.
